Apple Hill is conveniently located in Placerville which is approximately 50 miles east of Sacramento on the way to Lake Tahoe and right off Highway 50. It is an area that is well known for Apple and Fruit Orchards, Farms, Fruit Stands, Bake Shops, Wineries, Christmas Tree Farms, Kids Activities, Pumpkin Patches and so much more. It is a community rich in agriculture where generations of growers and farmers welcome you to share the experience with them .... Delfino Farms The first stop was at the amazing Delfino Farms. This farm has been family owned and run over 60 years. There are multiple aspects of the farm for all to enjoy. Edio Vineyard and Winery are simply stunning with picturesque views of the grounds and hills surrounding the farm. They make small batch wines to pay tribute to their grandfather, Edio Delfino. Peter Delfino, winemaker, focuses on minimal intervention with the land to make these delicate wines. Derek Delfino, Vineyard Manager, takes pride in the vineyard and truly lets the land speak for itself. Christine Noonan, General Manager wants to make every guest feel like family. Joan's Apple Bakery delivers the most mouth watering pies and cheesecakes in the area. They still use the family recipes created by Joan Delfino and are all hand made from scratch. The famous "Walkin Pie" is an absolute must try! Henrietta Stitch Hard Apple Cider is a California Style Cider. It was established in 2015 and has quite the following at Delfino Farms. It is made similar to a sparkling wine and is the perfect compliment to their other wines and desserts. Delfino Farms also hosts many social and community events such as live music and concerts. This place is perfect for all ages and is a must see stop when visiting Apple Hill. Rainbow Orchards - Home of the HOT Apple Cider Donut This was our second stop in and this place needs to be at the top of your list of places to visit in Apple Hill. Rainbow Orchards owned by Christa Campbell (aka Donut Queen) and her husband Tom Heflin (aka Farmer Tom). It is a 3rd generation family farm that has been providing the finest fruits for over 40 years. They grow some of the best apples, pears, peaches, nectarines and blueberries you can taste. Donuts - The Donut Queen - Christa Campbell, really is the master of these legendary donuts. They are made hot and fresh to order every single time and are well worth the wait. Christa and Tom are also well known for much more than their donuts too! They also produce many different jams, jellies, syrups, vinegars, butters and sauces. Their bakeshop showcases an array of pies including the famous apple, peach, nectarine, blueberry and pumpkin pies. Apple Cider - The historic barn at Rainbow Orchards dates back to the 1920's and was originally a cider mill. To this day it is still in action creating some of the tastiest soft and hard cider in small batches with no additives, flavoring or carbonation. Rainbow Orchard also hosts a number of events at their farm, from paint parties to BBQ's, to wine and hard cider tasting. It is a place the whole family can enjoy, especially the donuts!! This is just a small glimpse of what Apple Hill has to offer. With over 50 farms in the area, there is something for everyone to enjoy. This is a great place to make some precious memories and take advantage of what local agriculture has to offer. The farmers work hard and do such an amazing job at Apple Hill and are willing to share their stories and make you a part of this incredible experience.
